Centerville Beautification Committee announces holiday lighting contest winners
Seven Centerville homes and two local businesses have been recognized for showcasing spectacular lighting displays by the City Beautiful Commission, a volunteer board with the City of Centerville. Members drove the streets of Centerville looking for lighting, display and other festive decorations that enhanced the property. Patty Kraft, Commission chair, recently announced the following winners:
Nancy Freaking 324 Alston Woods
James and Kara Blalock 1665 Gatekeeper Way
The John Hoffman Family 582 E. Whipp Road
David and Millie Moorman 257 Tauber
Guy and Cindy Smallwood 6510 Staverton
The Wilke Family 7254 Green Ash Court
Barry and Bonnie Pack 230 W. Spring Valley Road
The Business Holiday Award was given to two neighboring downtown Centerville establishments: Circa and Jolie Boutique.
According to Kraft the city is divided into seven zones, with a winner in each area. The winning homeowners will receive an award and recognized at a future Council meeting.
Kraft said that the committee reviewed all nominations. “Many winners are often nominated by neighbors or even folks driving or walking by the home. We appreciate the community’s participation in letting us know of really wonderful displays. We hope people will take some time to drive past these outstanding decorations.”
In addition to the Holiday Lighting Awards, the commission recognizes homeowners for outstanding summer yard maintenance and beautification with a City Beautiful Award.
The City Beautiful Commission also offers Beautification Grants to non-profit groups or individual volunteers that demonstrate a commitment to the beautification of Centerville. Projects must be on City property or immediately adjacent to and visible from City right of way and enhance the look of the community. The typical grant is $250.00 or less. For details on the grant program, see the guidelines under the ‘City Beautiful’ tab on the City’s website www.ci.centerville.oh.us or contact the Public Works Department, 428-4782.
City Beautiful Commission is looking for members. Green thumbs are not required, only a desire to keep Centerville a beautiful place to live. Applications can be downloaded and completed at www.ci.centerville.oh.us or by calling Debbie James, Clerk of Council, 433-7151. ###
