Centerville Councilmember appointed to National League of Cities committee
Centerville Councilmember John Beals was appointed to the National League of Cities Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources (EENR) the steering committee.
The steering committee’s responsibilities include researching agenda topics and drafting policy positions for policy and advocacy committee review. The Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources (EENR) Committee is responsible for developing policy recommendations on issues such as air quality, water quality, energy policy, national wetlands policy, noise control, and solid and hazardous waste management.
“Centerville Council is committed to finding ways for our City to be more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. This is a great opportunity for me to share what we have done in our community while learning other cities’ strategies,” said Beals.
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance. NLC serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 19,000 cities, villages, and towns.
Elected to Centerville Council in November 2007, Mr. Beals serves as a member of the Council’s Green Committee as well as the Financial and Long-Range Planning Committee. He is the council liaison to the Bicycle Committee, the Centerville-Washington Township Historical Society and the City Beautiful Commission. He represents the City of Centerville on the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, the South Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Township Recreation Board.
