Centerville Council member appointed to National League of Cities committee

Centerville Council member Belinda Kenley recently was named to the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Steering Committee. She formerly served as a committee member.

As a member of the steering committee, Ms. Kenley will work to formulate national policies on such issues as housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation, and international competitiveness.

 “I am honored to be appointed to the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee,” said Ms. Kenley. “For our country to be strong and competitive, our cities must build the foundation.”

She was also appointed to the Program Committee for 2010, the key mechanism for planning the conference workshops and content.

Ms. Kenley has also served as a member of NLC's Small Cities Council.

The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance. NLC serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 19,000 cities, villages, and towns.

Elected to Centerville Council in November 2007, Ms. Kenley serves as chair of the Neighborhood Relations committee as well as a member of the Streets and Highways and Environmental committees. She is the council liaison to the Centerville Arts Commission and Washington-Centerville Public Library. She also represents the City of Centerville on the Montgomery County Drug Action Coalition Committee.
