 Centerville Pledges to GetUp Together!

almost_none.gif

The City of Centerville has joined a new community-wide initiative aimed at helping kids and families live healthier. GetUp Montgomery County uses a healthy lifestyles “prescription,” known as 5-2-1-Almost None, to provide the ‘call to action’ aimed at addressing the results of today’s unhealthy lifestyles.

The Rx is simple: Get five fruits and vegetables a day, less than two hours of leisure screen time (meaning video games and TV), get one hour of active play every day (even if 15 minutes at a time) and drink Almost No sugary beverages.

GetUp is also about driving a culture change that will help our community begin to positively impact the health of kids and families today … and tomorrow. Nearly 100 area organizations have already pledged their collective support to the vision of a healthier Montgomery County with the healthiest children. The City of Centerville is proud to be among the partners in this important effort.

Together, GetUp partners help spread the word and work to remove any barriers kids and families may face when trying to make healthy choices. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of local children facing issues of overweight, obesity and related long-term health concerns, such as diabetes and heart disease.

According to Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County, two-thirds of county adult residents are overweight or obese, while more than 500,000 children in the State of Ohio are currently overweight or obese. One in three babies born today will have diabetes during their lifetime.

We know that kids don’t buy the groceries and they can’t get healthy on their own. GetUp involves anyone who can influence a child’s life. Using the easy-to-recall 5-2-1-Almost None healthy lifestyle prescription, GetUp Montgomery County will help children, families and our community take those first steps toward healthy living.

GetUp Montgomery County is an initiative of Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County (PHDMC) with funding from the Montgomery County Human Services Levy and a Signature Grant from CareSource Foundation. Strategic oversight is provided by Hub partners: PHDMC, CareSource Foundation, The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, the Montgomery County Commission and Wright State Center for Healthy Communities.

A wealth of information and resources for parents, teachers, kids and GetUp community partners is available at www.getupmc.org . Let’s GetUp Together!
