Eyes to the Blind Clinches Battle of the Bands Victory
Eyes to the Blind band members (L to R) Read Poindexter, Luke Wiese, Brian Jasin, Drew Marcum
Four soon-to-be Centerville High School freshmen, rocked a crowd of more than 300 to win top prize in the first ever Battle of the Bands: Centerville/Washington Township co-sponsored by Washington-Centerville Library and the Centerville Arts Commission. “It was a really exciting night for the bands and the audience. Based on their reaction, it is a competition we will seriously consider repeating next year,” commented Shelly Peresie, Teen Services librarian.
The Battle of the Bands contest encouraged teen bands in Centerville and Washington Township to upload a video of an original song to You Tube. Six local bands entered the contest and more than 700 people went online to vote for their favorite band, whittling the field to three final bands who performed at the Centerville Performing Arts Center on June 30th. Determining the winning band was again left up to the listeners. By audience applause, the crowd picked Eyes to the Blind as the winner and recipient of 10 free hours of recording studio time compliments of Encore Studios. Two other teen bands, Outliers and A Bleak December had great performances as well and walked away with second and third places respectively. Prizes were donated by McCutcheon Music, Willis Music and Encore Studios.
