Art Gallery
The Centerville Arts Commission presents a gallery featuring the work of local artists. The exhibit rotates every eight weeks and features pieces from local and national artists. The Art Gallery is located in the lobby of the Centerville Police Headquarters at 155 W. Spring Valley Road. All exhibits are free and open to the public. The Gallery is staffed 24-hours per day and exhibits may be viewed at anytime, day or night.
Maps of Centerville's past and present are currently on display at the Centerville Police Headquarters until the beginning of September. Mark Yandrick, GIS Technician spearheaded the exhibit with assistance from Steve Feverston, City Planner. Yandrick has been with the City’s Planning Department for a little over two years and was “excited to have the opportunity to showcase the City in this way.” Yandrick recently received his Professional Certification in GIS (GISP) by the Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute.
Many of the maps are from the City’s collection; although the Centerville-Washington Historical Society and the Washington-Centerville Public Library also contributed maps to the exhibit. Yandrick designed the exhibit based on three themes; aerial, historic, and modern. The collection features historical maps from the 1800s and even an aerial photo of 1920 downtown Centerville. There is a sequence of maps that show the development of Yankee Trace over the last five years. Some of the modern maps include the City’s trash collection schedule and the City street map which recently received the Best of Show award at the 2009 Ohio GIS Conference Map Gallery.
